Q: Can I install my wheel & tire package myself?
A: We recommend having a professional install for you. If you decide to install yourself, we recommend the following:
1. Remove round retainer clips from wheel studs.
2. Tighten lugs by hand, or lug wrench.
3. Use a torque wrench to torque lugs to manufacturer specifications in owner's manual.
4. DO NOT USE AN AIR GUN TO INSTALL LUGS, this can overtighten & possibly break lugs or strip stud threads.
5. Use torque wrench again on all lugs after 50 to 100 miles.
Q: Can I use my factory lug nuts on aftermarket wheels?
A: No, you must use an aftermarket lug kit. Select one at checkout from us.
Q: Will my factory lug wrench work with aftermarket wheels & lugs?
A: No, generally the factory lug wrench is much larger & will not fit inside the lug opening on aftermarket wheels. Select one at checkout from us.
Q: What are hub rings? Do I need them for my new wheels?
A: A hub ring is an installation tool that is available for purchase to help with the installation of your wheels. It will center the wheel on the factory hub to assist with centering the wheel when you are installing your lug nuts. In some instances a hub ring can also assist with reducing minor vibrations felt after installing new wheels. A hub ring is only required on wheels that have a larger center bore and installed on vehicles that utilize lug bolts to secure the wheels.
Q: What is center bore?
A: The center bore of a wheel is the size of the hole in the center of the wheel. Also referred to as hub bore. Most aftermarket wheels have a larger center bore to allow the wheel to fit a wide range of vehicles.
Q: What load range do I need for my vehicle, & what does it mean?
A: The load range (or load index) on a tire's sidewall helps identify its strength and ability to contain air pressure. Load ranges are identified in ascending alphabetical order for light truck/SUV tires (the further along the letter is in the alphabet, the stronger the tire and the greater amount of air pressure it can withstand and load it can carry). It is recommended that you refer to your current tire size load rating or owner's manual.
Q: What is offset and backspacing?
A: Offset is the measurement in millimeters from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting pad. Offset is most often referred to as negative or negative. (Low, Medium, and High) A zero offset means the mounting pad of the wheel is directly in the center of the wheel. The higher/ more positive the offset generally means the tire and wheel stays under the vehicle with a more flat face & minimal lip. The lower/more negative the offset generally means the tire and wheel will push out from the vehicle & have a deeper lip.
Backspacing is the measurement in inches from the mounting pad to the back edge of the wheel.
Q: How should I take care of my wheels?
A: Proper care and maintenance on an aftermarket wheel is very important. A wheel should be taken care of like the finish of your car. A good quality soap should be used to clean the wheels on a regular basis. In most cases they should be waxed as well.
Q: What is the difference between a Chrome wheel and PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition)?
A: A PVD finish is more closely related to a powder coat painted finish and is slightly darker in color than standard chrome. PVD typically has a more durable finish than chrome, but can ONLY be washed with soap and water. A chrome wheel has a brighter shine to it and requires regular waxing to maintain the finish. It is generally more susceptible to corrosion in severe weather or coastal conditions.
Q: What are the different types of wheels you sell?
A: All of the different types of wheels are outlined below:
One-piece cast wheels:
This is generally the most common type and least expensive wheel built. There are a few different types of cast wheels, but in a nut shell aluminum is melted and poured into a designed mold and then cooled. This creates the wheel design.
Flow Form wheels:
This design is also a cast formed wheel, but with and exception to the barrel of the wheel. The barrel is spun, heated and then pressed with rollers. This process stretches and compresses the aluminum which increases the strength of the wheels substantially from a standard cast wheel.
Forged/Billet wheels:
A forged wheel is made from a solid piece of billet aluminum. The forge is a machine that exerts thousands of pounds of force to the billet which give the wheel its fundamental shape. It is then milled in a CNC machine to the manufactures specs. This process allows a wheel to be built with a lot less material and maintains a much higher strength than cast wheels. It also allows for an endless possibilities for design as well.
Multi Piece wheels:
A multi piece wheel is made of 2 to 3 wheel parts put together. It can be made from cast or forged materials. A 2 piece wheel can consists of a barrel and a center. They can either be bolted or welded together. A 3 piece wheel will have a 2 part barrel and a center that is used to bolt all 3 parts together. The wheel styles allow for endless customizing possibilities.
Q: What are TPMS? Do I need them?
A: TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitory System) is a system designed to signal the driver of a tire losing pressure. Not all vehicles have sensors installed inside the wheels, but the system has been mandated as of 2007 and required as of 2016 if the vehicles is under a certain GVWR. If our vehicle has TPMS we recommend that you purchase new sensors with your Tire/Wheel package to prevent a fault in the system. If you are unsure if your vehicle has TPMS give us a call (1-800-710-9411) or send a chat/email.
Q: What air pressure should I run in my tires?
A: If your vehicle is equipped with TPMS then we recommend that you follow the recommended air pressures listed on the door placard in the driver side door jamb of your vehicle. If not then you can contact us for our recommended air pressure settings.
